ENG: I am Italian, and I come from Firenze city of beauty, art and jewelry.  It is the home where the technique of chasing and repousse was the first thing apprentices were taught. Since the Renaissance (XIV century) in Florence, we use TAR (Bitumen) for chasing and repousse technique. Its a recipe that we pass generation to generation mixing virgin tar with calcium carbonate. Tar is a part of the family of BITUMEN.

The bitumen can be natural or artificial . Natural bitumens are widespread in the earth’s crust. Constitute in any case, the impregnating material of many sedimentary rocks ( sandstones and limestones ) , and in this case one speaks of natural asphalts , or are in the form of veins or pockets in the subsoil or as surface outcrops of variable extension , real and its lakes , fed by underground springs . Natural bitumens are located in Trinidad , Venezuela , Mexico , Cuba , in Colorado and in several other countries. In Europe was in Sicily, and Tuscany. The artificial bitumens or bitumens from oil can easily replace the natural ones even if they show compared to the latter a lower stability due to a lower proportion of asphaltenes . They are obtained from the distillation of crude oil.

Fin dal Rinascimento a Firenze, viene usata la PECE (Bitume) per cesellare. La sua ricetta si passa di generazione in generazione mescolando la pece con carbonato di calcio ipercronizzato. La PECE fa parte della famiglia di bituminosi.

I bitumi possono essere naturali o artificiali.

I bitumi naturali sono molto diffusi sulla crosta terrestre.

Costituiscono in qualche caso il materiale impregnante di molte rocce di tipo sedimentario (arenarie e calcari), e in questo caso si parla di asfalti naturali, oppure si presentano sotto forma di vene o sacche nel sottosuolo o come affioramenti superficiali di estensione variabile, veri e propri laghi, alimentati da vene sotterranee.

I bitumi naturali si trovano a Trinidad, nel Venezuela, in Messico, a Cuba, nel Colorado e in svariati altri paesi. In Europa si trovavano in Sicilia e in Etruria, (TOSCANA) 

I bitumi artificiali o bitumi di petrolio possono sostituire egregiamente quelli naturali anche se presentano rispetto a questi ultimi una minore stabilità a causa di una minore percentuale di asfalteni. 

Si ottengono dalla distillazione del greggio.
