SET OF CHASING AND REPOUSSE TOOLS (since 1619)

ITALIAN CHASING TOOLS

My name is Fabrizio Acquafresca I am the 17th generation of this family dedicated to this art. Artist and teacher of chasing and repoussé in Italy and in the world.

My family has been in the industry of chasing and repoussé since 1619. This technique has been passed down from generation to generation in my family. I started working in a chasing a repoussé factory at the age of 13 and in the past 34 years of working and teaching I have created what I consider to be the best style of chasing and repoussé tools.

Each set of handcrafted tools consists of 20 tools of different shapes and sizes that will best accommodate any project or design. The unique mushroom shaped tips (registered trademark), help to strike the metal at a more dramatic angle while allowing the artist have more control and the ability to see the movement of the metal. Carbon steel is used as the material for the tools because it is soft enough to easily modify the shapes and can be tempered with water and salt instead of oil. I choose not to harden tools in this set, because it is best to work with the tools for a while and make small modifications to fit each person’s individual preferences.

The tools are given a matte finish to allow ultimate control and minimal tool slippage. The matte finish also allows for the artist to see the amount the tools are moving the metal with more easy as compared to that of polished tools. If a particular tool is needed for a project and not included in the set, I can make customized tools as commissions.
